Hi. As the title of the page suggests, my name is John. This is my Nth blog since 2004. Hopefully this one will have more of a shelf life than the ones before it. The title of this blog gets its name from Acts 26:25 where Paul gives his defense of preaching the Gospel to King Agrippa. I love Paul’s use of the phrase “words of sober truth” to describe the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In reality, all of God’s Word is sober truth.
First thing you should know about me is that I’m a wretched sinner saved by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. I was someone who wanted nothing to do with God, but in the midst of a low point in my life He turned my heart of stone into a heart of flesh and redeemed me. Right then and there, I repented of my sins and put my faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.
Secondly, I’m currently finishing up training to become a biblical counselor through ACBC (Association of Certified Biblical Counselors) where I hope to minister to the congregation in my local church. At some point, I would love to go back to school to get my Master’s degree in biblical counseling.
Thirdly, I love to read and write. I’ve always been a writer at heart, even when I wanted to be a paleontologist in the sixth grade. I was brought up constantly reading and I feel it has helped me today in feeding my desire to write, hence this blog (and many others before it) and a stack of unfinished novels and scripts. And I still love dinosaurs.
Fourthly, I’m a huge Star Wars fan. Not the dress-up-and-go-to-conventions kind, but close enough. I enjoy a fair share of fantasy and sci-fi and read a lot of comics as a kid.
Fifthly, I love coffee. I will even drink it at at night. Like at 9pm. I’m insane.
Sixthly, I live in Southern California with my lovely wife and two rambunctious parrots named Pancho and Lucy.
Lastly, I believe in the transforming power of God’s Word and the sufficiency of Scripture. The Gospel of Jesus Christ through the preaching and teaching of His Word leads to changed hearts and minds. At the core of biblical counseling is our dependency upon God’s truth to minister to hurting people.
